Job Description

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Job Summary:

Minimum Requirements:

– Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications, or related field
– Six (6) to nine (9) years experience in marketing, advertising or related field (Three (3) years in health care marketing preferred)
– Both oral and written communications skills are vital to effective performance in this position; Must be able to speak comfortably in front of groups and be a strong presenter

Job Duties / Essential Responsibilities:
– Supervises marketing specialists, senior specialists, coordinators and interns who are responsible for the development and implementation of marketing and public relations strategies and plans. Responsible for annual evaluations of marketing staff, midyear progress assessments, input into goal development for employees and department, input and monitoring into personal development plans. Serves as a dotted line supervisor of public relations and communications staff, seeking to coordinate internal and external messages, strategies and priorities.
– Responsible for winning support for marketing strategy through close collaboration with hospital senior managers, including the President and COO; hospital physician leaders, including full time medical chairs, and board of trustees as applicable
– Develops, implements and presents written strategic marketing plans annually with hospital Presidents or designee, which include System initiatives, network initiatives, product line goals and entity goals through interactions with all levels of organization to provide measurable recommendations.
– Manages and monitors the budget for all hospitals within the sub-region assigned for oversite, ensuring programs are implemented at estimated budget and funds are shifted accordingly. – Leads in development of annual hospital operating plan in conjunction with the hospital COO or President, ensuring that the plan is updated and presented to Senior Management and Full Time Chairs quarterly
– Participates and facilitates as needed the updating of the hospital’s strategic plan through project management with hospital President, COO and Planning and Business Development
– Serves as a liaison from System Services to entity leadership, seeking to serve the needs and goals of entities while incorporating system initiatives effectively and seamlessly. Responsible for coordinating with multiple system services teams including Web, Call Center, Planning and Business Development, Public Relations, PHS Foundation, Corporate Communications, IS, Community Outreach and Government Affairs
– Manages the flow of Marketing material development and works with graphic artists/writers and other vendors to coordinate production, direct mail, media planning and related activities. – Keeps all parties aware of implementation progress. Advises regarding plan fulfillment through a continual tracking process. Quickly develops strategies and approaches for under-performing areas deemed to be of strategic importance, pulling in system and entity resources as appropriate
– Ensures tracking of 1) progress on product line volumes to determine steps for correcting under-utilization and 2) marketing and advertising programs to measure response.
– Communicates effectively with Director and Senior Vice President, working to keep them informed of barriers to strategy implementation, red flag issues and areas of concern in terms of meeting volume and project goals. Upholds and serves as an advocate for division goals, including support of initiatives such as the THR Brand Promise and regional approaches to marketing and communications
– Recommends and implements most cost efficient and effective means of reaching product line goals
– Reviews, recommends and constructs research as necessary to determine physician and consumer options about issue, product line and entity information
– Seeks ways to build physician practices within related specialties. Develops and implements strategic plans for network referral development
– Participates in establishment and integration of key messages, audience determination and system-wide promotional strategies including development and execution of Texas Health Resources annual plans, system programs and services
– Demonstrates ability to track Return on Marketing Investment (ROMI) directly correlating marketing activities to successful achievement of designated goals. Champions customer relationship management as a key initiative in achieving market share and volume goals
– Maintains up-to-date knowledge of trends in health care industry, managed care, health care marketing and advertising in general
– Participates in continuing education of system-wide marketing staff as well as clinical/program coordinators
